Rattus Rattus, also simply known as Rattus, is the the main host of the Horrible Histories Sketch series and deuteragonist of Gory Games. He is performed by John Eccleston, assisted by Scott Brooker. Rattus did not appear in Horrible Histories with Stephen Fry (Fry took over the hosting duties)

Rattus' appearance in Series 6
Rattus Rattus is a smelly rat who has grey fur, a peach nose, ears, hands and feet and small arms and legs. He lives in a burrow inside a wall. From Series 6 onwards, he lives in the time sewers. Usually, he likes to do is dress up accordingly to the era of the sketch so can match up with the era. (Example: If the episode contains a Terrible Tudors sketch, Rattus would most likely be dressed as a Tudor or executioner, or perhaps Henry himself.) In series 6, he wears a navy hat and a buttoned orange and red vest, but changed back to his original appearance in the 7th series onwards. Rattus has a pet flea called Marcus, who usually likes to fart in his fur, which makes him feel embarrassed. He is also seen to be able to hold a sign whenever a fact about a historical era is true, if a moment is silly, or to warn the viewer to not do a dangerous thing from the past. He occasionally gets visited by guests, for example, Dara O Briain, or Dani Dyer. He has been visited by his mother, Ratty and Ratalie. He once set up a band (of cardboard rats) in Monstrous Musicians, called One Di-Rat-Tion. He ended up quitting the and called himself Ed shee-rat.

Personality[]
Rattus Rattus is energetic and entertaining. He often attempts to make jokes throughout the series. He is also very mischievous.
Family[]
In the Series 4 Song Special, he is shown to have a nephew called Scrappus. In Awesome Alfred The Great in series 6, he claims to have 7000 cousins, one of whom was eaten by Emperor Wu Zetian. In Series 4, Rattus has a portrait of two rats who seem to be his parents. In the Series 5 Ridiculous Romance special, it is revealed that he has a girlfriend called Ratalie who breakups with him in Series 7's Ridiculous Romantics. His mother appears in Fearsome Families, and causes Rattus to be embarrassed.

- In the Big Proms Party special, he enters the Royal Albert Hall via a sewage drain pipe.
- He is shown to be able to play the drums in Series 6.
- He also hosts HH Gory Games with Dave Lamb
- He caused himself a concussion in Series 5, Episode 7 when he was acting out how Augustus acted when he lost his legions, by slamming his head on the wall of his hole.
- In episode 9 of the third series, Rattus Rattus stopped a sketch in the Frightful First World War where WWI soldiers squish and kill rats personified as a video game, however, this made Rattus Rattus angry.
- From series 1-5, Rattus lived in a rat hole with various furniture in it. From series 6 and onwards, he lives in a sewer with people flushing toilets' and occasionally feces floating down the sewer.
- In the series 8 episode, Fashion Faux Pas, we see Rattus Rattus going through clothes to see which suits him best, but one of the clothes resembles his series 6 appearance.
- It is revealed that Rattus has a 'PooTube' account in the series 8 episode, Chaotic Collabs.
- Rattus Rattus sometimes appears in the Horrible Histories books as well with a 2D cartoon design.
- He is the official mascot of Horrible Histories.
